It's difficult for Australia to set fresh records.

The greatest achievements have long been mastered.

This is the squad that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, along with another six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed 1,294 days unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, those for the peak baggers, are what's still available for a squad that has won it all.

That it took until Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase exceeding 300, regaining their record for the biggest in the women's 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the bowlers that have sported the yellow jersey over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their hitters to hold a record if not afforded the chance.

Ultimately, the outcome of Australia conceding 330 was skipper Alyssa Healy receiving an opportunity to produce her most recent brilliance.

Originally famous as the 19-year-old niece of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after Australia failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has witnessed all through 15 successful years since.

A T20 World Cup win happened three months after her first appearance and seven international trophies have resulted from 10 attempts across formats.

The gritty keeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India briefly halted the successful run.

That loss "pushed us to reevaluate our levels," Healy stated recently.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the final and was awarded tournament MVP. She made sure her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this latest epic knock surpassed that earlier display remains open for discussion.

Certain people claim the reasoning behind final game tension. Others can counter with the test that comes when facing a record target and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's clear is this ton was much more difficult to anticipate.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 happened while she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings followed six innings in India since the start of last month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"For those following me in training, it has been a frustrating experience because it appeared my form was missing at all," said Healy.

"But once you enter the playing area, your competitive nature activate and you simply focus on the contest."

Healy's fighting spirit has continuously been her major advantage - and an irreplaceable characteristic in taking over from famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, dismissed by the emerging pace bowler in all three matches, but here that only provided Healy's motivation.

One run resulted off the opening delivery and after that Healy was on her way.

"A chance to take the field and lock in a contest with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, kind of motivated me," said Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 pitches - her quickest at the global tournament - and her century in 84 as she flogged anything short, scoring 21 fours and three maximums.

By the time she was dismissed Australia needed 66 more at run per delivery - a manageable total now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"To chase 330 is uncharted waters so I'm pleased we have the belief to achieve that now," continued Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to do it again but, if we do, we are confident we can achieve it."

That comment will be the last competing nations at this World Cup want to hear.

Over the past five days a sense they will win from any position has only strengthened - this victory coming after victory over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite sitting at 76-7 at a certain moment.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a meeting with traditional opponents England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a last-four spot may probably be guaranteed.

It was at that stage they left the prior year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy was absent due to damaged tissue in her foot as she led her country for the initial instance at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she later said she regretted not playing through the pain.

Yet even as she subsequently acknowledged those injuries have pushed back consideration of ending her career, this tournament is likely to be her concluding event as leader in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win an international tournament as skipper.

Triumph in India would lead her to the peak of her ultimate challenge.
