Government Official States MoD Examining Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, as Staff Instructed to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

A defense minister has confirmed that the MoD is currently examining the potential security risks associated with Chinese vehicles, and personnel have been told to avoid discussing secret matters in all vehicles.

Security Guidance for MoD Staff

In a recently aired interview on a radio station, Luke Pollard addressed claims that Ministry of Defence officials have been instructed not to talk about classified material while riding in Chinese vehicles.

He explained that the ministry is “investigating” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, but stressed that security is a concern in all contemporary cars.

Our department has a collection of tens of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles account for a tiny fraction.
However regardless of if you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a car from another country, our instruction to our people is not to plug MoD devices into their vehicle, not to have conversations at a secret classification in any kind of car, due to the increasing risks of surveillance that exist in every single vehicle, to restrict those secret conversations in secure locations. That’s a prudent and sensible thing for everyone worried about security.

After it was suggested that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using every cars from China, Pollard responded: ‘That’s precisely what we’re investigating at the moment.”

Wider Security Context

The announcement comes as reports from Norway and Denmark have warned the UK to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese electric buses, which could allow China to disable buses and cause chaos to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russia intelligence vessel was reportedly shining lasers at Royal Air Force pilots, labeled a “highly dangerous” action by government representatives.

The broader security environment underscores the significance of strong protocols and vigilance in all areas of government operations, from vehicle usage to discussions practices.
