The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

Each time a significant honors show draws close, one notices an outcry to include fresh award types to recognize unsung work and delight the passions of enthusiasts with niche passions.

A fellow writer made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. So would tabletop games, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front just as with other blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case supporting my request remains most pressing and important of all. Here's the proposal: We need an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and it will always generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason cinema institutions don’t do it. But it is an essential concession in the world of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards presently include award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories successfully include a lot of ground, making space possible for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges of one title, intense tile-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Which classification works between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

The Representation Problem

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers published annually lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition in any category during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
  • Only a few logic titles scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're compact experiences, however the design behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among the most-played games globally maintaining this status for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with popular creative games competing to become highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. It would be easy to populate a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

Restating the point, these represent titles that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators operate at the challenging frontier interactive creation, developing some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Similar to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay generations.
